Positive activities update – April 2012

Overview
On 24 November, Cabinet agreed that positive activities (youth services) for young people would be commissioned by local members, with young people themselves playing a very important part in the decision-making.

Commissioning groups
The commissioning groups have had their first round of introductory meetings, with further meetings scheduled for April and May. It is expected that young people will be joining the commissioning groups as advisors from May.

A campaign is currently running to recruit ten young people from each district into the commissioning groups as volunteer advisors, and a planned training programme for young people will be available from late April.

Young people who are not taking part directly in the commissioning groups can still play a part in decision making by sharing their views with their local councillor or the Youth Cabinet.
